Located 7 mi (11 km) south of Harrisburg, Hershey was formed by and named after
chocolatier Milton S. Hershey. To compliment his expanding chocolate production,
Hershey created a model community within the Derry Township because it was conveniently
surrounded by dairy farms and cocoa bean ports and it provided a comfortable
living environment for his factory workers. Many sites and artifacts from the
town's formative history remain in Hershey today, including the Hershey Chocolate
Factory and the Milton Hershey School. One of the town's family-oriented attractions
is HersheyPark, featuring roller coasters, themed restaurants and an animal
pavilion. Interactive displays, rides and a 3-D movie exhibiting the history
and evolution of both the town and Hershey's chocolate is available at the Hershey’s
Chocolate World Visitor Center. In addition, Giant Center hosts seasonal sporting
events including all home games of the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL).
